Best bet is to Relay your headlights with looms that are available on EBay.  You will use the original Loom to Power the "Pick" of the relays, and wire the Relay from the battery to the relay to the headlights.

You will lose about 14 feet of wire between the Battery to the headlight switch and back to the headlight bulbs take the Hi-current off the headlight Circuit.
The Bulbs go from 11-11.5V to Battery 12.5-14V (depends on battery and alternator).

There are 2 types of looms, or ways to do it.
One has 2 relays, and the other 3.

The 2 relay is for low and high beam.
The 3 relay is for low, High/low.

The 3 relay kit allows the Low beam to activate whenever the Highs are on increasing the light available.

I have the diagrams for you in (HOW I Relayed my headlights.)

Look for Fused and Ceramic bulb sockets…. I am not endorsing them, only showing you what is out there.

ebay: headlight Relay kit.

What do Divorces, Great Coffee, and Car Electrics all have in common?

They all start with GOOD Grounds.

I would try to get a kit with at least 3 fuses and relays, but not the hi/low function as mentioned rather it has 1 fuse and relay per side for dipped beam so you have redundancy as per factory.

dont want to loose all the lights if one pops. ideally 4 fuses and relays so one per side for both dip and main, but tbh 1 fuse/relay for main is ok really as you dont use main all that often and if you lost it can switch back to dipped

I used to back in the day, but with the costs of all the decent stuff I bought in I would only make £5 and so it wasn't worth the time I put into them.

many of the kits you see on ebay are bought in from china for sod all and posted up with a hefty markup (just shows you how cheap they are from china when you look at the costs here!) so shop around carefully you want quality stuff!

any normal H4 bulb will fit fine, just be aware if you go too mental they get hot enough to melt the glue holding on the glass, especially if the units are getting on a bit. Once you have uprated the loom and bought nice new genuine hella lamps you dont need to go too crazy though :)
