I want to put a mk2 engine into a mk1
About 7 or 8 years ago i bought a mk1 with the engine taken out and put into the boot. So the car was left sitting for about 7 or 8 years and recently i was trying to restore it but the engine bolts are completely siezed. I have broken about 3 or 4 allen keys trying to get it open. But i have a mk2 that i bought for parts and i was wondering if the 1.3 block in the mk2 would fit my mk1

Hi Jack,
What engine bolts are you refering to when you say you broke allen keys trying to undo them?
If you need to get out siezed bolts and nuts off I use the really brilliant Loctite Freeze Spray aerosol which takes it down to -40c and that cracks the thread open, there's a great lubricant in it too.. Note! You must spray one part only -as in the nut OR the bolt/stud- but not both as your trying to shrink one part from the other.Spray for about 5 seconds then you MUST wait 1 minute for the freezing to take place, then try to undo, it usually works. If not give it another dose..
The Mk2 1.3 would I believe fit the Mk1, and, its a stronger engine too (it should have 3 bolts on top of the rocker box and not the earlier type with multiple bolts all around the edge) but you would need to ask others about this.
Hope that helps.
Marcus.

The bolts on the side for taking out the camshaft are the ones that broke the allen key but the 12 point spline cyclinder head bolts are seized aswell. I noticed a load of rust in the hole for the spark plugs and i think when i pulled it out at first a few ago i heard water inside the engine so its probably just easier to get the mk2 block if it will fit
