Tracing a member for advice

Not sure if this is the best place to post this request, so mods please feel free to move.

Bit of a long shot, but I'm trying to trace someone who I believe will be (probably) be a member on here for some advice on how they restored their car, which a saw at a show at Tatton Park, Cheshire a few years ago now.

The car in question was an A-registered Mk1 Golf Driver 3 door in a gold (Diamond Copper Brown?) colour - the car had been restored by the owner all himself to a superb concours standard original spec from a bare shell upwards. Unfortunately, I don't have any further details than this to go off.

Reason for the post? The engine bay was very highly detailed, and I recall that the right-hand side gearbox mounting bracket had been gold anodised in a certain way to achieve the same finish as the factory (almost like a gold painted finish, not the iridescent green / pink tinge that is normally seen).

I'd like to try and find out which platers he used, as I'd be interested in using them to do the same part on a car I'm restoring (actually a Scirocco, but please don't hold that against me!).

As I say, long shot but worth a try.

Thoughts anyone on the issue rather than the member?   

Most platers id imagine would be able to plate up what you need. I think it's yellow passivate playing they Generaly used.

You can buy kits off eBay and plate your own. You can iirc mix colours too for different finishes.
jellybelly has done this with really good results.

It could also be what they call Zinc and Yellow. Most Platers would do this for you.

Apparently, there are lots of different techniques for what we might call yellow passivation that result in different finishes. However, when I've described the original finish to firms operating around here, they don't have any idea what process was used and say it could have just been something used at the time.

I recall that Ian's car seemed to have more of the 'right' finish - i.e. like as if gold paint had been applied, resulting in a thick, pure matt gold finish. This is different to the typically light, shiny gold with the hints of pinks or greens that the processes others have done for me seem to result in.

That gearbox mount and the clutch operating leaver on my car are in very good condition for their age and are still all gold, but are fading a little and risk letting down my engine bay slightly. I'm therefore considering having them done as part of a bigger job on the car that will see them removed any way, although on the other hand they wouldn't be original / have the patina any more.
