Wouldn't be surprised that the number of people running 40year old cars and not paying £360 VED or ULEZ/CAZ in towns and cities is raising highbrows in the treasury.
Also with new PMs previous history with wanting to remain and then rejoin the EU wouldn't be surprised if the VED/MOT exemption starts to follow EU classic cars rules; restrictions on where and when you drive your 'historic' tax free car (ie not in towns on work days or only to and from car shows) or if you have it registered all year you pay the full rate (ie they assume its your daily driver) so you end up running it just in the summer or you you have to have retro fitted emission cataylsts etc to be tax free.
The MOT exemption or extended test periods seems to be a EU thing for 'historic' cars so guess that remain.
EDIT: Govt docs have been describing how 'road pricing' will be used to replace fuel duty to make up for the £40BILLION road taxation that is disappearing with the move to EVs, will historic tax free cars start to be charged per mile and in ULEZ/CAZ zones?

A can of worms, indeed !
I'm expecting our new govt to do away with the rolling 40yr old exemption from road tax ….
But yea - a lot of options for consideration looking at EU ideas.
