How to spot !

So as a newbie , I have already been scammed once on Ebay.  Kirk Tyson has been really helpful (roof and seats) and I have a new dash on the way too (will be selling my swapped out obes so watch the classifieds !).I don't know where to go . Facebook again has loads of em  all saying they are breakers but only recently joined with the uk group . Is it possible to have a list of reputable folk . So far I have spent £++++ on heritage parts .

Look for the number of Items they have sold and the positive reviews /negative (EBAY and Amazon). Less than 50 be wary. If the seller has a no return policy stay away.  If the seller has a restocking fee stay away.

I too have been scammed over the years, and I report all, but they quickly start a new id, and start scamming again.

I usually use PayPal to purchase but there refund takes about 3 weeks and you have to stay on top of it.

Read the dispute Area.

Amazon has a quicker return policy.

The last time I got scammed it was Amazon.  Ordered Part.  Free shipping. (2 CV Axles for a SUV.). They sent the wrong items.  I had to pay to return them, there wasn't a RMA with shipping, I had to pay to return.

It was going to cost me more to ship them back than it cost to buy.  So into the Rubbish Bin.

Another company said they shipped them and after ten days no items.  I had to wait about 3 weeks then company said the items were picked and not picked up by the shipper (FED-EX). totally bs.  got my monies back.

What do Divorces, Great Coffee, and Car Electrics all have in common?

They all start with GOOD Grounds.

Where are my DIY Links?

25 years ago when I restored the GTI there wasn't ebay and the internet was in its infancy.

What there was in each small town was 2 or 3 scrap yards were you could go and get bits, actually see and touch them before you paid cash. And 25 years ago they still had the odd MK1 in to take the parts from, if you were lucky one of the breakers was a VW specialist.

It did mean that you had to cover some miles and take some time to find parts though.

1983 Mars Red 1.8 Golf GTI
1987 Alpine White 1.8 Clipper Cabriolet

The trouble with doing nothing is that you never know when you are finished.

Merrick2108 - are you looking to buy new or second hand parts.

Classic-VW
Heritage
Crazyquiff's
VW Northwest

are all reputable dealers

It depends on what you're after.

There is a 'Wanted' section on here but the forum is a little quiet.

Post up a wish list and you may get lucky.

At the moment any parts I need. My car seems fairly original so prefer to keep it that way if possible . I didn't notice the discounts that came with the membership and have already spent quite a lot at heritage ….oops !

👌here to no further scams . Thanks all. I'm sure it will happen again but hopefully less now. I have accidentally bought a dash off a non scammer (let's hope a child sized load of bubble wrap doesn't arrive by courier in a few days 😅)
