red surround dash what year?

Can anyone give a definitive answer to what year the Mk1 gti had the red stripe round the dash and vents and were there any other parts that had the red line on them as there seems to be ashtrays and the little windscreen vents on ebay for sale with red stripes .I was led to believe they were only on the 82 1.6 gti and it was the vents at the ends of the dash and the dash surround but would like to know for sure cheers

I think it’s all 1.6 GTI’s. Mine is 1980 and has a red surround.

yes thats the same as mine just trying to confirm if the little vents and ashtray were red as well  cannot see a picture of any different to what you have there  thanks

It will have a date marked on near the part no, I thought it was 82.

Might have been all S2 1.6 GTis but obv S1 had different dash.

Good point was not thinking about S1’s.

And I don’t think they sold too many 1600s once the 1800s were in full swing.

from what i can see it is just the dash surround and the vents at the side of the dash just like the picture above that had the red stripe.  Just watched a red surround dash ,vents and ashtray with red surround  sell on ebay for £600 !!crazy

 I'm reluctant to due to it been so rare but it doesn't belong on this model

Well after all the years of the production run, folks have swapped interiors with one from the breakers or bits and bobs to make their Ride from a Plain Jane model to a GTI or Wolfsburg by replacing parts, but they usually forget the Sway bars and other things that differentiated them.
We call this act Frankensteining.

Over here all MK1 GTI's were tin tops you call them 3 doors.

On my 81 Diesel LS I had Chrome trim on the dash, doors, and blower vents.

Purist's like OEM, and getting it back to OEM.t
The price of parts have gone through the ROOF, and that is the fact.

An unmolested Dash Bezel is a rare thing and may be worth it to some.
