Number Plates

Post

Hi all,

i really need to replace my number plates as they are really starting to look their age.  I have a couple of questions which I'd appreciate people's feedback and or views.

Do I get the same plate made up with the original dealer name and phone number on them?
Do I get a set of metal plates made with raised lettering?  But have a plain plate? No Dealers details
Do I just make up a set of plain Perspex plates (I guess that's what they're made of)

Your feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Any recommendations for a plate supplier would also be welcome.

Thank you.
Paul

Personal preference.

I have metal plates with raised letters.

Is your car a show car, week end car or daily?

What year is your car?

It's an 84 cab.  I've had it for about 12 years, it's a one prior owner full vw history.  During my ownership it's been off the road more than on it, not through issues with it, but I've got quite a few cars and I can't drive them all.

It's in excellent condition and fully original.  It will be a weekend car for the summer only.  IT will probably go back in to hibernation later this year.

Might be worth getting some dealer plates made to keep it looking original?
At the end of the day it's just a number plate and most people won't really look that closely at them….. Up to you what sort of finish you are after.

I agree totally with Mark above and if it was my choice I'd say go with the Dealer perspex ones if the replica details are good.

They look cool, easy to clean. ;)

Here in Austria we have to have metal ones as they are all issued by the Government. Look great to start with and I do clean mine. But over time they do get chipped and out of shape by people are parking and touching up against them because they can't see any better than Stevie Wonder! ;)

The reason the Government issues them is because you won't get any without a current MOT and Insurance!
As there metal they are difficult to copy, not only the pressing of them but you need the district badge that's pressed in. That and ANRS will throw out all the information anyway.

I've read that there's now well over 1 million cars on British roads that have no insurance let alone MOT's.

Here it's closer to 0 but certainly not more than 10 and the various Government departments along with the police and informants do the rest.

Not having vehicle insurance is seriously frowned apon within society here and with good reason!
