They are rare enough for me to tackle building one myself onto my hood frame. The one you are talking about I presume is a vilkus roof … I think about 4 exist and one of those is heavily modified. They were about £1000 in the 80's I think and a good one if I am correct is a few thousand if sold. And to add a rumoured 9 were built before the company went bust lol
Just out of interest which are the 4 that you know of?
The only ones i know of are the yellow highly modified one, the green one with the black roof and the black sportline (all these cars had the same roof on them). Then the all white one and the white one with the stripes down the roof has the same roof on.
Thats two, the only other one ive seen is pictures of one which is black with a yellow roof but dont know if it still exists.

A single-piece fibreglass hardtop, fitting over the folded-down soft-top like they did with the MX5, would be pretty easy to do. Admittedly you have to have somewhere to store it but the wind noise is pretty obnoxious with the roof up and that's a major point against keeping a Cabby as a daily for 4 months of the year with the weather we've been having recently…
The only downside for me would be worrying about the roof mech seizing or the top getting damaged from being retracted for half the year. I know the owner's manual warns against leaving the top down for more than three days - is this because of the layers of a vinyl roof sticking together (not a problem for me, I have a mohair roof…) or for some other reason?
I've asked a couple of suppliers, no promises but maybe a group buy would be a good idea?
