Mars red colour?

The colour mars red appears to come in many different shades. I know that red cars tend to fade with age, but why is it that mars red Mk1 Golf's for instance can sometimes look more orange than red, and visa versa?

Are there a choice of shades of the mars red paint code?

The more orangey one came on later cars into early mk2's. LA3A I think. 

L31B is the darker shade on early stuff. 

As far as oak aware there was Mars red 1 and mars red 2
1 came on the pre 80 cars and 2 on the later ones

Probably some did, but they usually change the name of the paint.
