how to set the CO adjuster screw

Can someone advise me how to know when the CO adjuster has been adjusted correctly. I adjusted mine thinking it would bring the idle down as it was idling high. I now realise that is not done from this. I now need to get it back to how it should. Car is a 1.6cc cabby with Pierburg 2e2 carb. Thanks

With the engine running, try adjusting it and listening to how it sounds, the co adjuster only adjusts how lean/rich it runs. Ive never touched mine. If you're still having trouble just take it to a garage and they'll be able to adjust it using a tachometer in the exhaust, they'll know how much co2 it should or shouldn't be pumping out and adjust accordingly. To adjust the idle speed you need to turn the screw in the 3/4 point turn unit on the left hand side of the carb. I think its clockwise to lower the idle speed. Do this when the engine is hot, also check your wax stat (black thing with 2 coolant pipes going into it) at he front of the carb is moving freely. Its suppose to turn off the chock as it heats up. Mine was jammed and now its moving it idles nicely now. Hope this helps.

Cheers mrnicktheflashman. I put the wax stat in boiling water so hopefully that is all good. The pin slowly came out as I pushed it in and let go. I messed the CO as thought that set the idle. I get a strong smell now. Could that be because it is too rich or lean? Does the CO affect the petrol consumption?

Yea it's running too rich and will affect petrol consumption. Like i say just turn the screw with the engine warm and running and listen to it. I don't know which way to turn it as i've never messed with mine. With the wax stat off did you check if the pin behind it that sits in the carb itself is moving freely? On my old carb it was seized so cleaning my waxstat didn't do anything! Basically as the wax stat warms up the pin inside it pushes out  and pushes on the big pin that sits in the carb itself, as it pushes it turns off the auto choke as the engine gets warmer. When my car was burning too much fuel and running rich it was because the auto choke was stuck on due to the pin behind the wax stat being seized. Your's is probably fine but its worth checking with the carb and wax stat off.

Cheers mate. I didn't actually check the other part of the wax stat. I will do that and check it. should the pin behind the wax stat move in and out?
