Factory Interior Trim

Been looking out for a white Gti and have noted some white cars have the red and black striped seats.

I would have thought being white the car would of had black / grey striped seats?

Does anyone know if this was a choice at factory, buying new? I have bought a white one with red seats and the owner claims it came from the factory like that.

Personal imports or imports via military personnel could and would differ from UK spec cars. You could order the version and options available to the european market.

A telltale of imports is that they often had rear seat belt retaining clips screwed to the metal work under the rear side window that UK cars never had.

Interesting, thanks. I've still to collect the car but the advert did say this was a military import so once I get it, Ill for sure check the seatbelt fixing.

What year/ model is your car (to be)???

its on Y plate 83

It appears that the original cloth for an Alpine white 1983 GTI was black/ silver for UK cars.
