Ebay selling, is it worth the effort????

Signed off work for ages so decided to list some surplus household bits and peices.

Tried listing last week but after 2 items taking about 2 hours gave up. Entering the description each key press took about 20 seconds to display the character typed???

Eventually got round that by entering text in Word and then cutting and pasting into ebay.

One item purchased BIN staight away and posted off :)2nd item sold and paid for this afternoon just before auction end. Almost straight way buyer starts emailing saying whe was going to relist item himself, but can I for him?? Then saying the item wont fit (a shower head). Any ideas if this is a scam I should be aware of?  I'd already wrapped and addressed it before seeing these emails???

Anyway decided to list a few more items but this week its letting me enter text and pics just fine but wont let me preview or list them, just goes back to a blank template. Very frustrating, are ebay trying to make you use face ache market place???

Sounds like a slow internet connection. Sunday is the busiest day for listing items, and the best for auctions to end for selling them.

Its worth it if you have a lot of items but expect about 10% of the transactions to go pear shaped or sell for less than their worth. Last time I had a clearout I made about £7000.

Speed tests always come back @35+MB down and @18+ up but agree looks like they dont have the capacity at their end?

I was happy to make £70 lol

Thinking of going halfs with a mate at a car boot stall, cash in hand there and then never to be seen again….

Ebay selling, is it worth the effort????

Sold many items on eBay and main head ache is having to post them from post office

And agreed at can be hassle

But car boot sales can also be hassle people want everything for a £ 1 lol

eBay is your best bet at finding someone who is willing to pay what the item is worth

As long as u are aware of its value and are not trying to get unreasonable amounts
then eBay can be great for getting good items a new home

There is many scammers  on there so be careful
but you can call eBay 24hours a day and they can look into the person who is receiving item etc

They always been helpful when I’ve called

I'm having an ebay clearout of mk1 parts at the moment and it really is more hassle than its worth but theres just always that niggle that stops me from just throwing it all in a skip. I just sold 2 of the outer front grill red trim corners for £48. - I never realised these were so sort after!

Well after doing a bit of googling and experiementing, there are loads of people complaining that listing doesnt work, many like me were it apprently works but when you preview, save or list it just goes back to the blank template.

Suggestions include, ebay saying there is a technical fault, mixing up ebay .uk and .com, pics too big, using MS Explorer etc etc etc.

Eventually got it to play ball using a chromebook and pics taken direct from phone, phew what a complete and utter ball ache.

The local post office that was in walking distance has closed so have to upset Gretian Thunderborg by driving to next nearest one now to post….

I think I sent a parcel once, with Royal Mail/Parcelforce/whatever,  but it was horrendously expensive (something happened which meant they could put prices up - and they did). After that I switched to MyHermes and guesstimating the weights myself, prepaying the postage on the internet then printing off and applying a label, then taking it to a collection point (2 miles away). It was a garage, but I suspect they dealt with more parcels than fuel they sold. Sometimes I had 7 or more parcels to take in and process.

PS not done it recently but yes, I could understand if their website pages for listing have gotten more and more complicated, and grind to a halt on slower internet connections.

I've sold thousands of quids worth of stuff over the years on eBay.

My fees make my eyes water…. but you have to pay the price for such a large audience I suppose.

It can be a hassle, depends on what you're selling. I tend to batch things up as much as possible.

So, getting everything ready, photoing in one go, packing and weighing all in one go, etc. Having a set of weighing scales is handy but not essential. For anything over 500 grams and shoebox ish size I find interparcel to be handy for posting. You can drop off to collection points like newsagents etc, or arrange courier to come and collect. Usually less than a tenner and either add postage costs directly or 'hide' in the item listed value.
Car booting things is basically for stuff you've given up on and would otherwise be throwing away in my opinion.

As above, had good and bad, had chancers saying item didnt work when it did etc etc..

Generally things sell, i list some items and they go within hours, some items have gone after 3-4 years!

Don't want to tempt fate but posted off item and its been delivered and signed for, so hopefully thats the last I'll hear about it.

There is loads of info on ebay about relisting if not sold or if won and not paid for but couldn't find anything official about what to do if someone bids, wins and pays and that asks you to relist on their behalf.

The only subsequent cockup being ebays suggested 2nd class mail £ ended up being twice as much when actually at the post office, £10.30 instead of £5….

I don't think its physically possible to relist an item on anyone's behalf except your own - you'd need to gain control or have some kind of proxy access to their account to do it.

Maybe he's just ribbing you because he thinks he bought it cheaper than its worth and is trying to flip it in front of your face.

Not sure, he was wanting me to relist and then refund his original £ and I keep any profit and he takes any shortfall etc. Hence original question about is this a known scam???

I was happy with the £ I got (except post office parcel farce costs). Hopefully he can relist and make a profit, after all we are a nation of shop keepers…..

That's different, it sounds like he changed his mind after bidding; but still went through with paying for it, etc instead of digging his heels in to cancel the order or mess you around.
