Cooling system radiator issues

Post

Hi all I have some cooling issues and just pulled the rad. (Water pump and thermostat already changed.)

So I only get heat in the inlet and outlet side and not on the fan switch side.

When I cover the expansion tank connection and blow in either hole no issues. However when I blow in the rad and cover either the inlet or outlet hole and leave the expansion tank connection open then I can pass a breath through it.

I am assuming this means it is blocked and knackered. Before I buy a new rad would like someone to confirm as I am not 100% sure I should be able to blow through it.

Thanks

No, it doesn't mean your clogged.I would flush and back flush the radiator out of the car, then flush and black flush the Block as well it is easier done with the t-stat out as you have no restrictions.

You can also take ot to a radiator repair shop and have it boiled and pressure tested.

Update on the radiator

After flushing with warm water. Don’t tell the wife I used the shower with the shower head removed.  Hahaha. She would go nuts me cleaning parts in the bathroom.

The rad has full flow. However I have discovered the expansion tank connection blocked solid. So I have drilled the clear as it is my guess this was causing a huge air lock.

Will see if I can refit it later and test run. Don’t want to fit fan permanently yet though as now it’s off will be getting it powder coated.

Just praying I have not cooked the head gasket with all the cocking about.

Yea it’s all good again.

So it’s turns out the small hose that runs back to the expansion tank is vitally important to keep thinks cool.

Run up and fan kicked in don’t see any mayo in the oil after cooling it last week. Exhaust was not spitting water so hopefully got away with it.

So my free of charge fix only cost me a thermostat, cooling pump, cooling pump to the powered coaters and head outlet connection to the powder coaters and now  will the fan cowling be going there. Free fix is about £100. Haha. It looks a little better there

Custom paint on the water pump with silver housing and black impeller.

Silver head outlet (excuse the the sillygum was a temporary fit while diagnosing the cooling issue will be fitting a new gasket now we have success)

Question. What does this sensor connect to?

The sensor you are pointing to is the thermo time switch, it reads the coolant/engine temperature and tell the 5th fuel injector if it's needed to start the car.

Thanks. Great help. The connector needs replacing and wanting to make sure I knew what I was messing with.

Never say never

I hope my next brake down is Stratford race course. There I shall have plenty of help on hand. Failing that the drive is preferable if it has to happen.

As for mental state I am way past a break down. Now into a gentle rocking motion in a corner most days.

lolololololololol know that feeling but not for cars, usually because of my children or the wife, from years of beating my head on Brick walls.
