Anyone got any idea where I can source new popper studs for my cover?
One is missing and no clothing alteration or timpsons seem to be able to get them big enough
Cheers

I’m about to order some.
Just done a cover repair.
It was also missing the elastics that go behind the rear seat.
Early cars weren’t fitted with the stud bases, they had a hook on the end to go into the triangle cut out.
Easy enough to sort bases out though.

I somehow knew
chortle
would reply.
My elastic straps have snapped off both sides completely, I didn't even realise they were meant to have them.
Its these ones I'm after, well one
Where have you ordered yours from?
I guess I could get 3 plus some new males and replace the elastic straps while I'm at it as well

There is a Kit fro General hardware that has the proper snaps, I can usually get them at my favorite hardware store. A good fabric store has them as well, you get the anvil and the Punch.
https://www.amazon.com/General-Tools-1265-Fastener-Fasteners/dp/B00004T7VT
Take yours with you to be sure you get the proper size.
Don't order 3 as you are bound to screw the first one or two up.
On my Velcro straps that kept coming loose, I just added the snaps to the straps, no flapping any more.
Top Boot cover Strap upgrade, where I show you how to use the anvil.

I could make you some for a fiver plus post and send you a popper in with it.
I’ve gone to do cars and dropped the rear seat to find the old poppers still in place on the stud bases minus the elastic lol.

Finally got the rear seats forward to check which isnt easy without the pull strap in place but mine is without poppers it would seem.
I've stolen this pic from another thread but what is the part I've circled for exactly?

Ok to move the seat backrest
Open boot
Look to left till you locate the black knob
Pull it towards you
Go into car
Pull rear strap forward
Backrest should follow.
That pictured is the release latch to allow the backrest to fold.
It’s connected to said knob.
Once the knob is pulled it allows the locking catches to move.

It’s designed like that so if the boot is locked and you have valuables in there, no chief can get into it from inside the car.
Theoretically….

Just for a heads up, a great place to get to know "Everything you wanted to know about your Cabriolet." But afraid to ask, well almost…WWW.CABBY-INFO.com
Chortle try this:
http://www.toplessrabbit.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=41&t=3271
And a quick replacement of your rear seat strap with an OEM part:
https://volkswagenownersclub.com/vw/showthread.php/32227-Seat-Back-Release-Pull-Replacement
Remember "Locks are only for Honest folk."
Whilst I have never had anything taken out of my Cabbie, years ago I had learned that the Parcel Shelf was a great place in my Midget to have at least 3 pair of Sunglasses, and a Savings Booklet Stolen from my car.
So either lock the valuables in the boot, or the glove box, as they say, "Out of sight, and it's still yours.".
Funny thing was that the Thief, took the Savings book to the bank and tried to get the monies….To his dismay, he chose one of my Cousins Teller Window, and well he was busted by one of my Other Cousins who was a Policeman…. LOLOL Crime don't pay in a town of 100K where I had over 400 direct and indirect relatives….

Genius, far better than my idea than the flat head screw driver method I used.
Best I replace my strap as well.
Briano1234 I've fitted a snap off steering wheel to my car as its only form of security. Generally I take the wheel with me but on longer durations away from the car it gets locked in the boot so maybe not as full proof as I thought

Taking the wheel with you, how bicycleish lolololololol…..
I had a gent ask about how to robber proof his car against a drive away as he was leaving it an a airport for 2 weeks…. I said hire a Cab (taxi). Leave it in the Garage.
I would be more afraid of someone slashing the top, then stealing the car.
I told him to remove the Fuel pump relay, that will stop all drive offs.

Jack strap in place.
It appears I did have a replacement for my original broken one in the shape of a very skinny belt held on with twisted speaker wire!
There should be a dedicated thread for these simple mods, this and the 292 relay are brilliant

I got a replacement release strap from sporttrucker on this very club site, but not wanting to break an obviously fragile item I have one of these from a 3d printer fitted:

It appears very robust and easy to get hold of.
