Looking for a solid Mk1 GTi

Im looking for a Mk1 GTi at the moment and there seems to be a real shortage of cars in my price range.Im looking to spend about 2.5k, possibly up to 3k for the right car.It doesnt need to be mint, but needs to be solid and either sensibly modded with quality parts or standard.Im not bothered about colour or age either, just a solid genuine car.
I am based in Somerset but can travel anywhere for the right car as I get free train travel.Anyone looking to sell?Cheers,Rob.

I'm based in Somerset and might b selling my silver '82 MK1 1.6 8v GTi depending whether i still have a job @ the end of the month.
I'd be looking for around £2800 neg if worst case scenario happens if u get my drift.
She has MOT till Aug 22nd, no tax @ the mo but will put fresh 12months tax on her if the price is right.
