Looking for a South African imported VW Citi golf, preferably new dash (post 2005), to replace the one I sold when leaving SA!
Anyone know of anything?

I am looking to buy.. I've just sold the Citi I had in SA.. I was quoted nearly 4000 pounds just to import it, once the VAT, SVA test, licensing and import duties had been paid..
If someone can provide me with a failsafe solution, Ill take it! I'd love a Citi here!

So would i love a citi… but citis are not too many here
Berts Citi was the cleanest example i have ever seen but sold last year at the classic car show…
£4k is not too bad… look in to getting 2 cars and might be cheaper… i know shipping companies that may do a cheap deal if you can find the cars.

I think it's very hard to register a Citi that is under 10 years old in the country due to safety regs.
There was a thread on here somewhere about someone who had shipped over a 2005 car & then couldn't get it registered.

Thanks, I feared this might be the case. I've asked the guys who have offered to import my car if this is also the case. However, this doesn't explain the irish registered under 10 year old Citi's driving around? Do they have different rules?

Yes Ireland does have different rules.

I have a 89 Citi Golf, a lot older than your looking for though.

is there a way to get car into Northern Ireland have it registered there and then be able to bring it back over to the UK and apply for english plates for it perhaps?

Well thats what I was thinking.. If you had Northern Irish plates you would have no trouble driving around the UK AFAIK..Or I assume there is no way you can drive around on Irish plates? I guess you can't tax and insure a vehicle in the UK if that were the case..
I've seen cars with SA plates driving around the UK a few times, have no idea how they get around that, maybe the cops aren't too concerned
I don't mind leaving the thing in a garage until 2015+, but actually finding one is proving to be impossible, I guess the owners wouldn't want to let go of one anyway!

I think North Ireland will be the same as here as it's still under DVLA. The one in the pic is a southern Ireland car with does have different rules.

aghh
well in my brief experience of getting the sportline from Ireland , it was on english plates and with DVLA as originally from portsmouth before going out to Ireland, the chap managed to keep it in Northern Ireland as he had a Northern Ireland address, but to move it down and register it in Southern Ireland it was going to be £1500 euros. You could check with DVLA and if its not too hard to register a car from Southern Ireland to the UK then you could pay the £1500 euros to register in in S Ireland but you may need address to use there then get it over to UK ?

No I'm a brit, lived out there for eight years..
So getting my own across will be the only way, and I'll have to wait until it is ten years old? Only another 2 and a half years time
Semi tempted on that ebay Citi, but if you're looking for old school interior, you might as well get a far nicer European MK1..

So, it turns out that I've had my offer accepted for the Golf you suggested.. Massively excited, I'll come down to some meets.. I have to sell my 52 plate polo in the next day or two, and then hopefully I'll be the proud owner of this beauty.. Thanks for giving me the heads up!
