So clean! German Mk1

Hi all

Just found this amazingly clean, amazingly low-mileage German Golf CL:

50PS - is that 1.1 or 1.3?

Ridiculously high price, IMO.

37kW is the 1.1 engine. But it's strange how that looks nothing like a CL - you've had one, so you know, this looks exactly like a Diamond Silver GX in every respect - the twin headlamps, the chrome trim, the seat upholstery. I think maybe the engine has been incorrectly described because they surely never offered this level of trim with the lowest powered engine? They certainly didn't in the UK so why they would in Germany is by no means obvious.

GXs were five door.  In Germany on most models of cars and vans they did special editions that they didn't do over here, so maybe this was a last edition CL?  1983 registered.

Or as you said, maybe it's wrongly marked up.

I think in Germany they did pretty much every combination of trim level, engine and number of doors. So you can find a 3 door 1.1 GL, or a 5 door GTI etc

I'd like a 5 door GTI.

Well, perhaps I should have said "almost" every respect!! I'm well aware of the 5 doors on our GX edition, having made very good use of mine only last week when I had to drive to London and back with all my gear for a gig!

Over here the 1.1s were always the most basic models, it seems strange to have the "luxury" trim with such an underpowered engine. But as Paul_C says over in the fatherland it perhaps wasn't so odd.

V strange!. The golf cl badge on the back of it looks like its from a mk3. Maybe wrong badge. I remeber seeing 3 door GLs etc from abroad even though couldn't get that in UK. Nice GX specs otherwise!

its also got a 4 speed box  :wink:
