Description: Up for sale is my beloved golf which I'm having to part with as I simply don't have enough time anymore to get all the work done. It's a Formel E I inherited from my gran, so was fitted a 1.1 litre engine.
I had great fun converting it to a 1.8 litre GTi. The block on the donor engine I bought was badly worn so I had it re-bored and fitted new corresponding piston heads. All bottom end seals and bearings were replaced. Extra oil baffle was fitted.
I replaced the kjet head with a digifant head off a mk2. Valves were reseated and fitted with new seals.
Later I fitted a high lift camshaft(I have the original camshaft).
I also chipped the engine management system.
I rebuilt the gearbox following BrokeVW's instructions. I replaced the original 5th gear with one out of a 16v gearbox(longer for better fuel economy on the motorway).
Black diamond clutch fitted.
Stainless steel Mongoose exhaust system and mild steel custom downpipe.
I have a brand new SSP 4 branch manifold (£500)
I upgraded the front brakes to the larger GTI ones along with the servo.
H&R springs all round. 20mm lower than standard from memory along with decent shocks.
Polyurethane bushes all round.
Strut braces front bottom and top.
Banded steel wheels.
GTi cluster
Wiring looms were in working state although I was planning on making some alterations. I have another loom in great condition from a mk2 to use.
The seats were reupholstered in a combination of leather bolsters and a strip of original fabric down the middle. I sourced a roll of the original fabric from Germany which I still have most of the roll.
The car was put to the test on a month long road trip round Europe. It didn't let me down.
It was great fun to drive and was my daily driver till my coolant froze one day on my way to work and the head gasket blew.
I decided to take it off the road to repair the growing rust patches.
I've got panels to repair the major issues including windscreen surround, complete front valance, genuine rust free wings and bonnet. New battery holder.
I have new roof liner from VW heritage and the rest of the interior was in a good state.
I've probably missed out some bits but happy to answer any questions.
The car was worth repairing for me as it has sentimental value but maybe too much for a stranger. I'm not putting any value to the shell but I believe there's lots of value in the rest.
I had everything stripped down to bare metal 2 years ago and as it is stored in a temporary garage, the seams are looking quite bad.
All the doors and bonnet are stored indoors and only have a little flash rust.
I'll attach as many photos as possible.
I have a roll over jig(£200)
I'd like £1800 for the lot not including the manifold or roll over jig.
