Gti Project, second attempt -SOLD
Hi.
Thanks to everybody who sent pm's re my first post, I hadn't anticipated getting so much interest & unfortunately I didn't have easy access to the car or any pictures when I posted the first ad so hopefully the following updated description & pictures will answer all questions.
First, some background:
This ad is for 2 cars, one complete runner, one completely broken.
I have owned the LX for 18 years. I bought it while living in Europe & imported it to the UK in mid 90's. It is fully UK registered & legal, currently SORN but it could be driven away given tax, petrol & a push start.
The old 1100 motor was starting to feel a bit tired (especially after I got a Mk5 Gti…) so I found myself looking for a way to give her a new lease of life. Along came a Gti with good mechanicals but a shot shell, so my project was born to make one good Gti from the 2 donors.
I have v5s, all paperwork, plates, locks & keys etc for both cars as well as bundles of MOTs, service receipts etc.
Models:
-1983 1100cc LX -100% complete LHD car, as pictured, chassis code WVWZZZ172DW432… Shell in great condition, been in my garage for most of the last 5 years. I think the paint is in remarkable condition for a 27 year old but it does have some inevitable chips, scratches & some rust. I've included pictures of the bad bits which are:
-Spare wheel well- I found one small perforation in the bottom of the well right at the back, the surrounding metal is all sound, I covered it in rust remedy 5 mins after the picture was taken.
-There is a small dent in the RHS front wing just above the bumper. It looks like it could well pop out given a nudge from inside but this would mean removing the inner plastic arches.
-The RHS corner of the front valence isn't quite right, it might have been knocked back or have some rust behind the paint. Only the lower valence under the bumper is affected, the front panel & slam panel is all fine.
-The LHS wing has a scrape in the paint & a mystery screw head on the lower vertical surface, might be a mounting screw for the electric aerial.
-The rear RHS wheel arch has some surface rust (treated) & a few dings & scrapes, nothing that wouldn't be covered by the Gti arches.
-The LHS door handle has been damaged by break-ins over the years, I painted the patch to protect the metal but it isn't a great colour match as I was going to fit armour plates before putting it back on the road. The LHS door also has some surface rust at the bottom of the door and at the top of the window frame, both pictured.
-The RHD door has some small bubbles in the paint around the lock, barely visible in the photo. They look more like the lacquer bubbling than rust coming through to me but I have pictured them so you can see.
-The interior is ok but tired, everything works, the headlining is good (only one 10mm tear at the back) & it will provide plenty of usable bits for a RHD car. There is wear on the drivers seat & a black stain on the back seat but I assume the seats will be swapped for the Gti.
Good bits :
-As the pictures show, majority of the bodywork is good, all still original panels & paint as the factory stickers show. It will need attention soon to guarantee another 27 years but I assume new paint will be part of most project plans.
-The engine bay is covered in more waxoyl, WD40 & grease than a Floridian seagull so I don't have any concerns about corrosion in there. The little engine is in there somewhere, easily mistaken for the heater motor. There is a battery in there too so I can try to get it started if anybody wants to see it running.
-The sills are all solid & were waxoyl'd several times over the years.
-No rust at all on filler cap/neck.
The LX is on the wheels that the gti came with, the original VW steel wheels & tires are included but they aren't much to look at.
-1983 1800 Gti -Fully stripped RHD UK car, everything included except the shell eg:
All mechanicals, complete interior, electrics, fuel system, exhaust (practically new), all parts to convert the donor shell eg engine & steering mounts.
Chassis code WVWZZZ172DW213…May be campaign model, not 100% sure but it has a leather steering wheel, 4 lamp grill, tinted glass (all included except windscreen).
No Gti arch covers are included but the pictured 3 piece Zender boot lid spoiler, 1 piece spoiler that goes across the hatch at lock height & a Kamei trim piece for the front of the bonnet are.
The engine is not pictured but is included, all ancillaries & the head have been removed to make it as portable as possible. I drove the car home when I bought it & that was the last time it ran.
A good RHD dashboard is also included but not pictured.
Tires all have plenty of life left in them, matching Avons on front & Dunlops on rear.
I have the whole rain tray from the Gti which could be transplanted into the LX to maintain the chassis numbers.
The Gti interior is ok, seems to look better in the flesh than in the photos. There is one cigarette burn hole in the rear seat.
Mileage:
118,000 miles on the Gti (previous owner listed engine rebuild at 100,000).
192,000 KM on the LX (motor runs ok but gets a bit hot & bothered in traffic so would advise a rebuild if you wanted to make it to a quarter of a million).
Location:
Surrey, KT13.
Price:
I've had a few offers of £500 so if you are still interested on the basis of the pictures & new info please let me know your best offer via PM before midday on Sunday. No immediate hurry for collection as it is safely off the road on my driveway but it is now outside so is subject to the elements.
