===========================

Serviced last summer but done very little mileage since.

My wifes car, it's going to be a very regrettable sale there are lots of memories associated with this car but circumstances dictate that we need a 2nd larger car as my wife always gets the keys to my own car before I get to them. The Golf always brings a smile to my face when I drive it, always has but it's better now it's got a bit more poke. Anyway..

Despite some setbacks, she has always been kept and always gets good comments from MOT testers.

We have owned her for 13+ years, a good friend owned it for about 3 before that and her mum had it for a few years before that.

She took us on our honey moon in 1999, shortly after that a trip to the wifes granddad resulted in a burst water pipe in standing traffic on the M6 and the engine was never quite the same again. I did the head gasket but eventually that engine started consuming oil faster than petrol.

~2001 we put in a MK2 Golf 1300 Carb Engine (available) which went fine until a very cold spell (-16) in ~2005 where froze the water pump and stripped cam belt. Despite being told by a local specialist to bin the car and buy their MK3 I instead decided on a head rebuild and got it back on the road. She contineud to provided regular service till layup in 2008 (a full resto was the intention). No time for the restoration so she was recommissioned after fitting the Polo GT engine in the spring last year. The MOT was passed with minimal fuss and virtually no cost. We have done less than 1000 miles since just round town.

Bodywork overall is good, needs a polish as it's mars red. Both front wings have had slight impact damage ( a tipper truck rolled back, and a car transporter cut the wife up) but the wings are very good and just need a fill and dust over, but it's been like that for 5yrs as it's not a big problem.  One door was dented whilst parked but a spare in mars red will be provided in the price. A small amount of welding was done for the recommissioning, but the tester at the time and my normal mechanic have both said the car is remarkably solid for it's age. Rear arches are starting to go but easily savable. couple of other bits to attend too but it's 28 years old!

Has Pirelli P slots on good tyres, plus there are original steel wheels.

Polo GT engine with Cone Filter, little rough on idle just after cold startup but it's only getting used once a week at most. Pulls very well, quite rapid compared to the old 1300 carb engine (Available). I used the gearbox that came with the engine. It's a little noisy in 1st and 2nd but the original box is available which was fine selects and holds gears absolutely fine though. Serviced 2010.

Interior is good, the seats have been covered for most of it's life. Has a momo steering wheel fitted and an alpine CD player ( needs wiring looked at as it goes off occasionally)

As you can see it's been with us a long time and be resurrected after a couple of problems. It always surprises the garages with how good it is underneath. I should have the original steering wheel somewhere.
