Advie on buying a MK1 (NEWBIE)

Think I've already posted this under 'new peeps' then I thought this would be the best place to ask the question…..

Hello - I'm just about to invest my redundancy money in a Mk1 Golf GTi - I've alwasys liked them but I don't know much about them! I've seenm all kinds of models for sale; campaigns, sportline etc.

Which is the best model to buy as an investment?

What do i need to look for when buying one?

Thanks, (You're my new best buddies!)

Cheers - the reason I'm not going for a classic beetle is the nightmare in chasing the rust, I didn;t think Golfs rusted (sorry, does that sound stupid). They're not known for rust are they?

Also , I may have to use it on the odd occasion for work, so need something that will shift along if needed. I have a budget of about ?3 - ?3.5k - what are my chances?

Hi,

I have got a Mk1 Campaign that has just had a complete respray and is excellent inside.
Will be going for ?3900 or just below with the old plastic.

How does that sound?
Engine is exceptionally good.
