Automec brake kit
Been reading a few old threads on the automec copper brake kit (GB6425), no mention of price - anyone know how much they are? Does the kit provide solid piping for whole system i.e compensator and engine bay?
Cheers

AutoMec Kit
By complete kit do you mean all the copper pipes are shaped and come with all fittings?

I think the kit comes cut to the right length's with the connectors on and all you have to do is bend them to the right shape.. replaced 2 pipes and it's really easy to shape the copper pipe by hand.

Indeed I bought the Automec kit a few weeks ago along with one of their brake pipe spanners - about 55 quid all in I think including the dreaded VAT and delivery.
Excellent service though - ordered 2pm one day, turned up first thing the next day. They do several Mk1 kits though - not sure what the difference is, but the one you mention is the correct one for alate model GTi with compensator.
The pipes are the correct length but all coiled, so you may wanna grab a cheapy pipe bender from Machinemart for the pro finish. The instructions are a bit generic - all the pipes are labelled and there is a single A4 sheet that lists a description of what each pipe is for. I plan to replace the old pipe sections one at a time rather than rip all the old stuff out at once.
Probably also worth doing your flexi hoses too whilst you are at it.
GSF sold me some nice braided Goodrich ones for ?30 for all 4. Not bad considering the bog standard rubber ones were a fiver a corner anyway.
I plan to refurb the back axle whilst its off too and maybe do the fuel lines.
Will try and take pics once I get underway.
Cheers,
Chris

I guess its down to personal preference, but after costing up a decent flaring tool and the fixings and pipe there wasn't much in it as far as I could see, and to be honest once I have done it on my Mk1 I don't see myself doing it again.
Its worth doing it yourself if you plan to do a few cars, but for a one off job I don't think the cost savings are worth it, given the quality and price of the automec kit.

Agree Chris - thought might be cheaper to make my own, but once costed up all the parts and buying the tools not much in it plus haven't got a lot of time. Haven't ordered the kit yet but will do soon.
