Windscreen wipers 'sticking'
Morning all.
Upon starting up the wipers this morning in lightish rain they seem to stick in place or work for abit and then stick half way back down/up…
Would this just be a case of dirty wipers? I washed the car the other day but didn't wipe the blades. Or could it be the motor/mech?
Picture is not the car but gives an example of what I mean. Any suggestions would be helpful.
Cheers.

Hello
Strip out the motor and assembly, remove motor from linkage and test. Test linkage by hand, you should be able to move the spindles(these are the stubs that the wiper arms bolt too) chances aare they are seized, or seizing (ie:stuck) these can be further stipped down, clean with emery cloth (a fine touch is required) and wd40 (other lubricant sprays are avaiable
and coat in copper slip. rebuild spindle units and retest likage, refit motor and test (off the car is best) refit the whole assembly to car.
IMPORTANT: after connecting everything back together DO NOT refit wipr arms. turn ignition on and operate wipers at full speed, the spindles should now turn. Turn off the wipers with the switch and the motor should return to its rest position. Now refit the wiper arms and test again (its best to use the washers at the same time to lubricate the blades)
Hopefuly all should be well again

Do it once and do it right! ok, we've identified the problem, lets not make it worse by guessing……… Identifying the sympton is not the same as understanding the cause

Hello
Thanks a lot! I'll try and give this a go over the weekend.
Is it a simple enough procedure & would it help to have to haynes manual? I've got one on order that should be with me in the next couple of days.
I'm still pretty new to rebuilding anything on a Mark One that I would trust to be satisfactory by my own hand.
Cheers.

its a simple enough procedure and a haynes manual wont be much help although everyone should have one if only for the torque settings
