will 17" wheels fit?

merry christams all
im looking to buy some new wheels, but im wondering what is the largest size alloy that can be fitted. ive priced up some 15" which look great but im wondering if it would be safe to go with some 17" and low profile tyres. has anyone had 17's fitted to their golf before? if so what do i need to do to get it sorted?

not unless you want to do lots of arch work, stick with 15s as 17s when fitted will drive like shit
