which colour!

hi all, i have a mars red 1.1 currently in resto and was wondering when its finished whether to spray it jet shiny black with all the chrome side strips n all, or whether to blast over in the same colour i know people say it is always better to respray the same colour as before but this is my first project mk1 and was wanting to make it my own  (something special really to say that its mine and ive built it lol)
feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Personally I'd stick with Mars Red, especially if you are not painting the interior/engine bay.

hello, it's your choice. have a look for ideas in the magazines or internet. i have seen a few two tone mk1's which look good but again it's all personal choice. is it a 3 door or a 5door ? good to hear of a local dubster i'm in chesterfield.

hi thanks for the feedback, as to dubboy's reply i was intending on spraying the inside of the car aswell as the car is having a complete overhaul and thought i might aswell do it right if im doing it at all, also i have been looking in mags and things and have seen some really nice colours that i think would go well…..
anyway keep the feedback coming always happy to here other people's views.

If you can get a "Mint" body and paint job then go for it in black , if not i would paint the same colour

    I will be spraying my GTI cabrio in the upcoming months. It's currently black, and I intend on keeping it black! Am I correct in thinking the GTI came in the three basic colours - red, black, and white?

Certainly the tintop series 1 (small rear light) Gti's plus in Silver too! Not sure about cabs.

Black looks a cracking colour on a MK1 but can be a nightmare to keep clean! 8O

red, black and silver for the series 1 GTI and many others for the series 2.
When doing mine i thought about making it metalic black whick i think would give it a modern twist but in the end decided to keep it original and will prob worth more in a original colour. VAG did some nice colours back in the late 70s so may be pick one of those, there was lots of choice on non GTI models like really cool greens and oranges these 'retro' colours are now quite desireable. what ever you pick I think it would be nice to keep it a VW colour

veedubber are you spraying it yourself ? or can you recomend anyone local as i am wanting a few parts/ full respray doing and i'm in chesterfield cheers jim.

I am taking my cab to a place in ripley called clements he's meant to be pretty handy with a spray gun. I trust the quality of his job from fotos and speaking to others that have used him.

I own my own SMART repair business in Belper so im pretty fussy when it comes to who gets their hands on my car
