To paint, or not to paint? That, is the question.......

My grey/gold clipper has lot of little scratches and nicks, and a couple of bare metal scratches; quite a lot of work.

Do i…..

a) T-cut, polish and fix all the scratches

or

b) strip it down to bare metal and respray the lot (myself)

problem with A is there are so many bits a bobs, plus I might not be able to it with new paint matching the old, but it should be cheaper right??

advantages of B are I'm planning on stripp8ng the car out and rebuilding her, and could get rid of any rust, could change the colour and probably a better finish…..if i do a good job!!

cheers benmatt, i may just call on you for advice. I had a feeling that was the answer, just needed someone to confirm it. Seeing as I'm stripping her and putting her all back together it'd make sense just to go the whole hog.

Well up for painting it myself

a) to save money
b) i like the challenge

any tips on where I can find a good guide on stripping, priming and painting cars?

no i dont sorry if i do will let you know!as your going to bare metal it just need a da sander and some 80 grit discs then a strip and clean wheel for the fiddely bits once thats done that will be fine for priming!for any filler 80 then finish with 180 ready for primer as for getting the filler right its keep trying till you get it where your happy with it!fill you in on the rest when you get to where your ready to prime if your like me thats prob in 3 years!!

i agree, t cutting will only make u feel its still not good enough, did it with a car once (a rover, yes dont ask, it was my first car!) mine has stone chips on bonnet but saving up for a respray...so go for it!
