TESTING TIME !!

My G reg gti cab is giving me a testing time at the moment.
you guys will be able to help i know.
My glove box lock now fails to open, a haynes manual problem i think ! im getting a bit sick of listening to same minidisc i can tell you .
The next more serious problem is a ticking noise ( which sounds like a tractor!!!! :cry: ) when i first start the engine, its goes after the car is warmed up, but boy is it loud !!  any ideas as i dont want to get fleeced at the garage, many thanks  :lol:

Glove box lock - probably just a stuck lock - get it open and see what the problem is - i can repair or supply glove box locks matched to your key or to a new key.

Ticking noise is no doubt a stuck hydraulic tappet - best replaced.

Thanks mate !!  cant get the glove box open without breaking it !!! guess that is what ill have to do  :x .
how much do recon the ticking noise will cost to get done ? ( not a job for me thats for sure !!!!! :oops: )

Cam tappets need the cam removing and cam belt.  I'd get a new cam belt fitted while doing (only about ?5 from GSF).  I would have thought a mech worth his salt could do the work in under 2 hrs so you'l be looking at a labour bill of between ?75-?100 + the cam tappets + rocker cover gasket
