Securing instrument panel surround

Hi

The instrument panel surround in my GTI is loose. It is held in place by three lower screws that fix to metal brackets and by three upper screws that fasten to the inner fibre of the dashboard.

My problem concerns the upper mountings in that the fibre has frayed so that the metal clips for the screws no longer have anything to clip to.

Has anyone experienced this before and if so, do you have a solution?

Improvise , i used some very thin Ali strip i had and made a new backing panel to take the self tappers , you could stick the metal clips using epoxy glue on what is left of the dash .

Or its replacement dash time
