Rust patch at hood base on GTI Cabrio
I want to start on the minor rust patches on my new project MK1 GTI cabrio. There is a bubbled area on the drivers side where the base of the hood meets the car in the corner. Whats the best way to tackle this? Should I remove the hood? Is this an easy thing to do? Help would be appreciated as this car has gotta be ready for summer cruzin!
Thanks,
Jordster

I've never tried but you should be able to slacken off the rear cable and peel the hood away from the lip it attaches to.
Don't let the rear cable twist when undoing the nuts or it will snap. You can make access easier by removing the rear parcel shelf and releasing the bottom of the head liner from the sharp hooks (easy to release headliner from hooks with the hood half open).
See the 'Roof refitting probs' post in this section for a couple of roof how to's for more info.
Cheers,
Ross
