removing metal pitting and polishing

spent an hour or so on saturday with a wire brush getting the rust off some bits and bobs… I ideally want to polish these up but there's some slight pitting, what is the best method to remove it?

then once it's back to bare metal without pitting, what's best to polish it up with to get a nice shine? that will also protect it from rusting again!

What metal is it?  If it's body work, either P38 or of you are trained, Lead fill (but it's dangerous in the wrong hands).

at the moment I'm just doing the rocket and cam belt cover, maybe the inlet manifold as well

Im doing exactly the same thing, supposed to be doing my dissertation, but this seems more fun.  Ive used a wire brush to remove all the paint and rust (and some of the pitting) but am kind of in the same boat now.  I was looking at all the attachments that came with my dremel style tool, but cant work out if any of these are any good!
