Reattaching Gravity Valve

When dismantling the drivers rear arch area I removed the cover from the fuel filler pipe, the gravity valve came with it.

Anyone had any joy remounting the valve as I have now just got a hole in the metal where the bracket was one fixed, is it possibly to weld that far up in the arch ?

Anyone any suggestions as to a design for a new bracket ?, as all I have is a pile of rust

mk1inbits (still)

Had same problem , that braket was only a skinny plate spot welded to the arch . What i have done is prime and rust proof up in the arch then when it was all dry i put the gravity valve in its plastic bracket and then stuck that up where it should be with seam sealer . you could use any thing rearly then replace the placcy pipe cover .

I have never heard of one of these going faulty so provided its in the correct place and the right way up sticking it up there will be for life !
Silicone or no nails may also do the job .

Cheers…….

I had a go at welding a new plate in, but wasn't very successful, so it's just up there using the force.. the plastic mud gaurd is bolted up below it so it won't go anywhere

I found part of what I think is a door latch - fitted the breather valve rubber perfectly and had a hole to fix it to the inner arch...anything which will hold the valve in place will do.

Just a case of bending a 90 in some thin steel sheet and drilling a hole through it, welding it in place is no problem
