rear light leaking

been rain quite hard all day and when i finished work i thought ill go and have look in my golf to see if its leaking any wear considering only just got it and noticed a great big puddel in the back so i followed it back and it seems to be coming in threw the back light any one have any idea what the problem could be or had a similar problem them self because i dont wont to buy a new back ligh if i dont need to thanks aj

First job is to take each light out and verify the seal is not only there but also intact, often the fixing bolts have been damaged/broken or the nut has been left off. If seal is missing there are several ways to replace it. Of course new light units is another way to cure the problem!

thanks ill have to have a look when its better weather all the bolts looked like they were their but i only had a quick look and i dont think it would hurt to replace the seals anyway

I have had this problem esp with 1 side.
Even though they are only a couple of years old and genuine vw clusters.
Seals bolts, evrything is perfect on them, but i had to lightly silicone each exterior joingt in the light lens.
This helped but its still got a weap somewhere.
Try that also.

yh thanks think ive done it now i got some caravan window seal tape and just took my lights out and made a seal out of that and it seems to of done the trick but ive only thrown a couple of cups of water on it so i just gotta wait and see

Mine has rusted through above the left light where the boot lid closes along the seal so I fixed it by putting a tarpaulin over the car hahaha until I can get it welded!
