power steering??

Hi all… Great site!

I have just bought a 1988 clipper convertible, which apart from a new roof is almost like new having had just 2 owners and always been garaged… only problem is my wife is having a little trouble at parking speeds with the steering and i wonder if anyone has any suggestions about retro fitting a sytem to the vehicle?

Thanks in advance for your help!

PAS

The LHD cars were available with PAS as an option but that dosent help you! The steering rack used in conversions is Nissan Bluebird, the rest is usually mk2 golf. Tim Stiles does conversions but at ?1000 it might be cheaper to join a gym.

It can be retro fitted using parts from other cars, I am pretty sure its a Renault Clio rack that you need (its what TSR will sell you in the kit   ).

Requires custom mounts and a hybrid uj  joint fabricating for the column. Not as hard or daunting as it sounds but alot of work.

When the engine comes out of my Caddy i'm going to be doing it in that.

Try replacing your top mounts - there was another thread just a couple of days ago about heavy steering

No top mount bushes are going to make steering light enough for a woman

Believe me I know, my missus wont drive the caddy cause of the lack of PAS.
