Can anyone help me understand why VAG seems to have two different paint codes for the same colour?
Why is it that on the boot sticker of a Golf with have the paint code such as LA3A (Mars Red) is then known as G6G6 in the brochure below?
Another example is L97B (Regatta Blue) which is down as Z6Z6 in the brochure?
Also, why is it if you google the brochure codes nothing comes up, but if you google the boot sticker codes you get info?
Ive also been told by the local VW dealer that one of our Mk1 GTI's, an '82 1.8 has the paint code 39/39. This is what parts manager found off the VIN due to the boot sticker being removed. Is 39/39 LY9U?

those are the option codes used for ordering, the code of the actual paint if you wanted to buy some say is still LA3A or whatever. dealer should be able to tell you the proper paint code from your chassis or plate, if he knows what he is doing (most dont seem to unfortunately)
