Paint advice please

Right then. As soon as I finish the bodywork on the golf I'll be repainting it.

Got an '83 GX in 97A diamond silver metallic.

I've done some spraying with cellulose on my brother's van and some random matte green army drab.

The question is what kind of paint do I go for? I've got a fair idea about two pack (2K) and what's involved but is there another inbetween option to go for?

Also does it matter what bsaecoat I go for. Last time we shot some grey high-build primer then the colour. Do I need to shoot primer, sealer (colours), colour coat then clear coat?

Trying not to be too dense, but I'm just trying to get a good idea of everything before I'm onto finishing.

Any input is appreciated, cheers.

Yradave says relax.

putting down primer is essential. you'll also want to choose a primer that isnt too far from the normal colour of the car, so that if you get any stone chips, they arent so visible  8)

hi m8 youll need to fully prep body then prime it with 2k primer as this dont sink like celly, once dry spray a dusty coat of aerosol colour onto it to use as a guide coat this will show any imperfections,hi or low spots etc rub it down using 800 wet and dry using a rubber block to keep it nice and flat.
when youre ready for top coat you need to panel wipe all areas well, then wipe over with a taq cloth to remove dust etc youll need to apply the basecoat then your lacqeur after try to build coats up instead of putting 1or 2 heavy ones as it will make your life easier plus plenty of scope to flat back and compound and mop afterwards hope this helps matey :)
