I had the leak before repacing my hood but didn't have it after.
Before I changed the roof I had used silicone sealant there and it helped a bit but didnt stop it much at all really.
When I changed the roof I used the proper gasket. So I cant really say if it was the new roof that cured the leak or the gasket. I expect it was a combination of the two.

Hi i have recently bought a 1990 mk1 golf cabriolet and i have been driving it all summer without any problems even with the occasional bout of rain, but now its starting to rain a bit heavier my roof has started to leak it soaked my driver and passenger side seat it is an all white model and so has made a bit of a mess i have re proofed it but not sure whether i did it properly used the autoglym kit, but it appears to ba coming through the gasket in between the seal and frame at front of the car near the hood handles, does anyone have any idea if this could be it and if it is how much is it goin to cost to get fixed, would appreciate any advice cheers

Until I knew I fixed it I used a set of waterpoof covers from halfords which saves the seats from getting wet and staining. ?15

As if that was going to be that easy, I ended up making up a mixture of black silcone (same colour as my car obviously) and super glue…then I sealed the leaking areas with it. Haven't had a leak since, and considering I live in Scotland I thought that was pretty good.

Sorry to hear that! I've manged to make space in my garage (just) so I'll be having a go at mine at some point over the coming weekend.
Good luck all and let's hope for a relatively dry autumn.

I haven't been out in the rain in it yet but I'll wait and see until I get some sort of covering for the seats. I don't want to stain them again.

Luckily I haven't had any leaks at all since, however bad the rain has been.
