GRRR MY ROOF IS LEAKING ANY IDEA'S?????????

hi everyone im new on here so go easy dudes! i have a 91 clipper cabriolet which is cool n all that but what's really chapping my ass is the annoying water leak's at both sides of the roof right where the handle's are, i've tried tightening the roof down, cleaning all the seals and actually sealing the roof shut around the bit that butt's up to the front screen surround  but still leaking!!!!!! could it be coming through the stitching on the roof as the handle is set in from the edge and im pretty confident it isnt getting past the glass or door seal etc. surely someone else has this problem and having plastic seat covers on permanently and bailing out every morning before you get in isnt ideal!!! any help would be much appreciated!

u know somethin guys i dont think it was the seal strips in the end, i changed them very carefully making sure everything was really cleaned off etc as in the guide… and when it rained it pi**ed in again much to my fury!!!!!!!!! then unrelatedly i decided to change the hood on my car as it was split round the back edge and when i removed the hood all the liner/sound deadening was wet!! when i looked at the old hood i noticed that it was stitched along one of the seams along the side part of the hood running along the cant rail if you get what i mean, where as the new hood is bonded/melted/fused together, after fitting the new hood and seals in exactly the same way as first time it is now completely bone dry in all weathers!! apart from jet wash lol! just thought i'd share that incase anyone else was pulling their hair out!!  should have taken pics really!

did it myself bathspray! not rocket science really but you do have to be prepared and get your bits together in advance like new cable's and seal strips etc. also do your best to inspect the condition of the rear window frame which is a bit hard with the screen in but lifting the rubber a bit on the inside along the bottom could give you a clue as to what you expect to find. took me a weekend to do but i was very thorough in the cleaning up of the seals etc. ideally a 2 person job when it comes to fitting the rear cable!!! i struggled on my own but got it eventually. also one of the little side cable lugs at the front on my hood frame had rotted and snapped off but i have a spare hood frame so took one from that and welded it in place and all is good!

Yo Bathspray - There's a link ("Technical") on LHS of your screen on how to fit a new roof…

or to save you some trouble - here it is ::::

The Mk1 Golf Owners Club

check it out and see if it is within your capability…

If not, thre's an upholstery guy methinks around Hesketh Bank or thereabouts on the way to sunny Southport who might fit a new one for you..I'll see if I can find his detals manyana

worst case if your frame turns out to be rusty skip the step where you chop the hole for the rear screen, swap a solid one in later then do it.

PNERivage

Abolutely correct - CJ Autotrim it was.  Glad to know they do the Hoods (Mohair as well??).  Are they supplying as well? I would maybe appreciate a posting/pm to let me know how much they charge you!

PS Yours wouldn't happen to be a Green Rivage would it???
