front and rear valances under bumpers?

Just wanted to know how hard it is to do the bodywork yourself on the valances, theres quite a alrge area of surface ruse on both, more worryingly the rear, but all seems to be pretty sound? i dont kno whethe to grind away the rust and see how deep it goes, then attempt to fillers smooth and spray? or to get it done by an expert as the car is currently battleship blue/grey so may get a respray? or keep the original colour? need sum help peeps!

Hi,
I'm in the same scenario as you and have taken the decision to try everything myself. I'm grinding away any rust and using the glass fiber fillers for deep holes and the P38 filler for small ones. You might as well have a go yourself as the cost difference to get a prof to do it won't be that different if you've already tried. You never know - you may do ok! Just make sure you treat the body work that you grind to prevent any further rust. Halfords sell all the stuff to do the job yourself. Keep us posted on your progress. I've just got the wheel arch bumpers to remove and will be doing some grinding myself this weekend (weather permitting). I'll let you know next week how it's going!

buy yourselves a MIG welder (With GAS is easier so I've been told) and plate them, or you can buy lower rear rear repair panels etc..from Hadrian panels (complete NEW rear panels available from Crazyquiff here to!)

will be a much more perminant fix and a lot stronger

picked up my welder for around ?150 and won't need to do the job again

a good site to learn from is mig-welding.co.uk spotted by a chap on here previously

go on.. you know it's the right way

k

thought about fixing it myself, jst scared that when its all finshed 6months down the line the rust will reappear.

and dont worry about welding, as part of my apprenticeship i had to do some welding , i can mig and stick weld but cant tig!! just aint got a welder, but cant really justify ?150 bar for one mod? although wud be handy as i do want the car totally smooth.

another Q? if you weld up the aerial hole on the wing, would it rust on the inside of the wing?as it cant be treated unless you take the whole wing off?

sounds like you've got the plastic 'mud guards' inside the wings, you can take these off although not done it myself as mine's never had them, shouldn't be too hard though

If you use weld-through anti rust primer before welding it all up I doubt you'll see rust again for years and years

as for the welder.. it's a 20 odd year old car, you'll need it again sooner or later

Good choice on the wheels   be looking for something like those myself in the summer

if you check out the for sale section there's a couple going I think, although you'll need to move an engine mount to go from smaller block to large (if ya didn't know already)

Oh, and you'll get there… always takes longer than expected, thought mine would take 8 months max… in the end wasn't finished for 16 (and still isn't totally finished  )

First you'll need to host the pictures you want on here on somewhere like www.photobucket.com

once you've signed up (free) and put the picture on there, you'll have a IMG link under it, copy this into a new post and your picture will be here  :D

make sure the pics aren't huge though
