Fitting Mk3 Recaros
I've bought a color concept interior out of a mk3 golf and will be fitting the front seats in to my Rivage quite soon.
Now I'm Ok with cutting and welding the bases to fit the mk1 runners but my question is: are the seats the same shape as mk2 recaros? They are going to be either retrimmed in cream leather or recoloured and I want to get some protective covers.
These are the covers on eBay for a mk2:

Will they fit?

not quite the same shape no, the mk3 bases are more liek std gti seats. the upper part is similar but still not 100% the same. but the covers will probably still fit i guess just not 100%

Did you fit the seats afterwards, I have the same seats that I want to retrim and fit in my Mk1 tintop.
I was told they are a bit wide for a Mk1.

Yes I fitted them and they are too wide. Basically cut off the out side leg and then weld it back on a bit further in.
There is a good guide on the caddy forum:

The guide is about fitting mk3 seats but the bases are the same anyway. It's what I used and fairly straight forward

Nice work, what are they like height wise, do the sit much higher than the Mk1 seats?
Does the gear lever hit off the seat or anything?
Are they heated seats, if so are you going to wire them up?

They're a good height, but I have the height adjusters as low as poss anyway. You'll have to either trim down the plastic tray on the sides of the seat of remove it all together to get maximum height adjustment.
Gear lever is fine and I did wire ip the heated elements aswell. Passenger seat works but drivers doesn't. Typical eh! I was lucky that my Rivage had the loom and controls already in place, I just had to change over the connectors underneath the seats.

How did you get on with fitting the seats? I'm thinking of getting a set for my mk1 tin top. The mk3 seat bases look very similar to the mk1 but that's in photos not seen them in person. Any help and advise would be amazing
