Engine Paint????
I was going to paint my engine whilst it is stripped down (block) and wondered what would be the best paint to use. I was thinking enamel paint? black obviously...

They do an aluminium coloured paint and a black high temperature paint:

Both good up to at least 600 degrees C. I'd be interested if anyone knows the correct colours for the different parts of the engine as they came from the factory? Anyone got any literature / pics showing this? I guess most of the engine was unpainted (block / head anyway)?

Sperex (Simonize/Holts) do a specific Hi-Temp Engine enamel but methinks it is only in aerosol cans…I would prefer to brush it on…..no doubt available at Halfords or yer local accessory shop. Black is listed.
One thing to remember is to get the engine CLEAN…no oil residue, etc else it'll come off again. You can have the block dip washed in a hot caustic soluition that will get it absolutely clean but if any is lurking where it shouldn't and doesn't get washed off it will later wreak havoc with the galloping kn*b rot. I would just have it steam cleaned and then hit with some brake cleaner before painting.
By the way, if your engine is out of the car, make sure you spend a few quid and replace the fuel lines…bl**dy pain with the engine in situ!
Cheers
