drivers door lock sticking.......help !!

Hi there,  i only joined here a couple of days ago and now i have encountered a problem i hope you can help me with .
The drivers side door would not close tonight , when i looked closer it seems the latch was in the locked postion and would not return so i couldnt shut the door !!!!!   after a bit of fiddling ( in the dark ) i managed to get it back so i could close it. but the when i went to lock it the key was really stiff , but did the job in the end .
how do i go about fixing it and is an easy job ( woman with little mechinal experience !!! :? ) or best to go to a garage ???
hope someone can shed some light on this for me , as i dont relish the thought of climbing over the passenger seat all the time !! :D

If you have a Haynes manual and some basic tools you should be able to take the lock apart and find out why it's sticking , it's quite easy . Before you do that give it a good soaking in all the nooks and cranies with WD40 or similar [penetrating fluid] it may cure your problem . A garage will be able to do the job but you will pay dearly for what will be an easy cure .

A mate of mine had this problem recently and eventually he snapped his key off in the lock  8O  When we stripped the lock down it was corroded and all green and blue- he had been using lock de-icer he got for Christmas last year and all it had done was rot the lock . I got socks they may smell but don't rot ya locks

Happy Christmas ……….

do you have the anti pry guard plates behind the key because these can cause problems, best to take off the handle and clean all the locking mechanism. not a bad job to do any probs pm me and i will try to help.recomend buying a haynes manual if you don't already have one put it on your santa list.
