Codes on rear panel

I have series 2 Mk 1 Golf Gti and on the rear panel there is a sticker with a few codes on it,  (sort, transmission, options etc etc)where can i find out what these mean??? I have searched the archives but could not find any thing??

Thanx the codes are as follows

1  sort no 1212 02-5-0773
2  the next code is 172 304
3  DX  which i think applies to transmission
4  L041 wich i think is to do with the paint or interior colour
5  and options codes  A45   451     931

Just wandered if they all meant something i should know about the car  or if they are all irrelevant???

I think 1212 is your trim code.

02-5 your car was built on Friday of week 2 of your year of production

172 2 door Mk 1 Golf or Jetta

DX engine code for 1.8 injection and shimmed head

L041 Schwarz / Black paint

451 5.5 x 13 inch alloys

931 interior adjustable mirrors

The car is a mk1 2 door and is black with a 1.8 engine but different wheels!! so all is good

Query: I always thought that:

The Jetta Mk1 is a Type 16

The 2 in "172" refers to a RHD car, rather than a 2-door car (PS: the 3 in a "173" part number refers to a 4/5-door part, such as the rear door latches with child-locks)

      Do you have a full list of the codes or do I have to post my options as well. I would be interested to see what I've got, compared to when it left the factory.

You could have a full time job with this now!!

I have a list of codes in the VW workshop manuals but I believe they are on ETKA as well

Do you Know what the code B17 means I am intrested as it is the only
code on my data sticker, apart from 451 which is as you said for the alloy
wheels.

9A is your transmission type
LA3A is Mars Red ('81 on)
409 is front sports seats
451 5.5 x 13 inch alloys
