Canvas roof

Can anyone recommend a good weatherproofing method for my canvas ragtop?  The roof doesn't leak, it just absorbs water.  The previous owner put something on the edges of it that repels water, but he didn't get at the top of the roof (he was a shortie!).  I've tried the Turtlewax kit from Halfords but the rain still soaks in.  Htanks,

Vaseline???  I've tried our local camping shop but they only had the spray that you use on your coat.  I'd already tried that and it didn't work.  Anyone know what VW would use?

a good camping shop should sell fabsil, which comes in a spray can or a brush on version as well. That will probably do what you want.

Thanks Maniac, but that was the spray I've already tried!  I wonder if the wax they use for Barbour jackets would work?  Does anyone know?  Its probably the same as advertised on your link.  Big

If your roof is old it WILL soak water in and eventually leak like a sieve (check my site below). The average life expectancy is 10 - 12 years !! Won't matter what you put on it the water WILL get through (we did the 'King Canute' imitation for about a year), and you will end up with the stuff being washed down all over windows and paintwork.
