arches

hi guys, im gettin myself a set of wide wheels, i need to get my arches adjusted, from speaking to bodydshops, some of them roll them and some of them cut them.which one is better? i have a cab with a clipper kit on it, was wondering if rolling or cutting could be done yourself? if so how?

well it all depends on exactly how its done, but the rear arches are double skinned so if they're cut they definatly need to be welded up again properly, and I'm not even sure if they should/can be cut at all with out compromising strength?

I'd check with the body shop to see how they'd go about it, if they know its double skinned?

the front arches are not double skinned so can probably be rolled or cut.

I'd imagine cutting will give the most clearance if needed to go super low and/or wide, but I've not seen examples of either process, I'm not 100% on any this myself so would also like to hear opinions.

I've seen arches that have been cut before, and I think it looks rubbish as you lose the original look of the outer lip, and the arches protrude very flatly and thin looking.  I'd try and get them rolled as you can keep the original arch profile as only the very inner lip is affected (the bit that the screws for GTI arch trims would go through)

Here's a pic of arches that have clearly been cut and lost the original arch profile (dunno if thats the right word  )

Nice car though 8) .  Is it someones on here?

yeah I'm not sure I like that really, but I do think you can cut them much less obviously, by litterally just trimming the inside lip - so still keeping the original shape…
