Arch rolling tool
My rear arches are catching a tad when laden………….
Where can I rent an arch rolling tool from? I know Frost sell them for ?225 but I'm likely only to use it once. :x
Any ideas folks, I would prefere not resort to using a hammer and wood to shape……..

I used to own a mk1 - well I've had 2 actually - YDU 720X & SMU 420Y. Currently I drive an 98 Scotia White Mitsubishi Evolution V RS…. fancy getting another mk1 someday

I've actually managed to borrow a tool from lowmk1…. just need to get round to doing it now. :x

They did my brothers Mk1 rear arches, one wa OK, the other started to wrinkle so they stopped and said that it must be rusty on the under side?!?!? Was it hell - there was nothing wrong with it!

Had mine at the local shop yesterday. The arches are so hard and especially with replaced arches the edges usally are a bit extra wide, which makes it hard for the metal to stretch as much as it needs. So it started to crack on the edge of the arch a bit down on both sides.
So either slim down the edge of the arch or as I did just cut it all off :twisted: I did?nt have time to go back to get it "properly" sorted, since I?m off to a track meet today.. WOHOOOO!!!!



Now there is only a minor rubbing on the outside of the tire instead of on top of it :dontknow: Hopefully that will not ruin my race day… prepared for anything else.. but that little thing would be

Angle Grinder… cut the lip completely off then seam weld the 2 edges together! Job done :wink:
Also there's no chance left for water/salt to sit on the lip and start rotting

Think I'm going to gently heat the paint, then try and roll the inside edge above the lip. I want to keep the lip because what will the plastic arches screw into? :dontknow:

:scratch: not alot! maybe some sort of clip.. didn't give that much thought (typical me!)
A fan heater though might warm the paint up enough (or at least give it a nice slow start)
you'll have to get lots of pics of how you get on!

the rear arches on the golf are awkward to do ive heard some nightmare stories too. mine didnt need to be done, just the front. had them rolled from ten to two. then screwed the plastic arch in the remaining lip.

ps a decent hair dryer is enough to heat the arch to prevent the paint flaking

When i did mine, i heated up the paint first with a hairdryer took ages! then cut the lip into sections to make it easy for rolling then with a mallet tap'd em back(carefully) to get as flat as possible rolled some more then sickaflex(dunno if thats right, cant remember the name) then underseal..job done. The fronts worked a treat and were flat as a pancake the rears were alot harder though. The rears are double skinned which makes it harder to bend back, when my cars gets a respray i'll be having the rears done professionally
