TDC
Problem is the v belt pulley don't seem to have a noticable notch in it. Also I've taken it off and dare say it won't go back on in the same position.
Any other bright ideas on how to check TDC so I can get the cam belt off.
Will it be enough to line up the top sprocket, and check the mark on the dizzy????

I went back to 1st principles and found TDC of no1 cylinder and marked the pulley to line up with the embossed arrow. The pulley has a dimple in it so its easy to put back where it came from.

How did you set your TDC of the No 1 cylinder what method did you use for that.

I plan to remove the spark plugs (carefully labelling each lead so I get them back on in the right order  )
Then I'm going to stick a screwdriver, or preferably wooden cocktail stick into the spark plug hole of cylindre 1, and turn the engine over with a socket on the crankshaft nut, until both cams (the cam cover is off) are in the right place (inlet and exhaust closed), and the spot on the cam wheel lines up with the head, AND the cocktail stick shows that the piston is at the top of its travel.

Sounds sooooooooooo easy, but I just know it's going to be

I?d use a big screw driver rather than any bits of wood that might fall in or get snapped of. 8O
You only have to do this if your notch on your flywheel doesn?t line up when all the other marks do? :dontknow:
I think on the pulley the 4 bolts are not evenly spaced so you can?t put it back wrong? :dontknow:
