starter motor problems
my car did not start properly
i thought it was a flat battery, checked and charged and it was the same. no cranking of the engine
however for a few days after if i tried starting it again, eventually the car would start, therefore
next step was a new starter motor……….
i went to gsf and bought the one with the 90184 part number
i am not sure if this is correct as it bolts up etc as it should
however the starter motor grinds within itself, it does not crank the engine
have i done some thing wrong?
i have also changed the brass bush in the bell housing.
thanks

on another forum the part number i gave is ment for a 16v engine, but apparently they are the same, is this correct?
saying that the casing of the new starter has 3 bolt holes as apposed to 2, is this becuase its not a standard part, and made for both 8 and 16 valve engines?

Take starter off, connect 2 wires from battery the starter should spin and seen to be engaging,
Get part number and ring gsf for confirmation of right part,
Maybe the teeth were not meshed when you fitted it ?

My guess is the cog on the end of the starter is wrong (different) or the bush isn't in. you need to put the old and new side-by-side to compare.
