power probs
hi everyone i have just got myself a cabby and only had it 3 days and now it seems to be losing power and back firing badly its a 1.6 gli can anyone help?

could it be the fuel pump? as it dont half make a racket,thinking of replacing it and the filter

Check the wattage - if I remember correctly you need 1.21 gigawatts.

Remember to keep it simple. Check the cap/rotor/plugs. Could be a timing issue.
Was a flux capasitor an option on these early cars? Mine dosn't have that…or A/C.

Start simple,do the normal service items as they probably need doing anyway.HT leads,Timing,check the distributor isnt loose.
Check wires to coil are all in good condition with good contacts
Clean any earth points that look suspect,main engine/gearbox and rear right cam cover bolt wire
If your flux capacitor is playing up..on a Mk1 its usually a bad earth :wink:

also, you need to check your wufflevalves, these were a common problem on the gli models

as said, do the simple stuff first. many a wallet has been battered by not following that route.
