Oil pump

Post

Am I correct in thinking early DX engines with solid lifters have different oil pumps to the later hydro engines?

Swapped a bottom end over and now have an 83 bottom end and an 88 hydro head so I'm sure the oil pump won't be man enough for the job now?

according to ETKA its same for mk1 and mk2 engines solid or hydro :)

its possible the hydro pump replaced solid lifter but i cant see any evidence of this in ETKA?

Either it was different or I need some kind of upgraded pump as it's about half a bar Short of where it should be.
Would a mk3 2l 8v pump fit ?

the 2.0 8v pump is beefier than the 1.8, pretty sure it will just bolt right on. worst case you'll have to change the drive pole thingy. mk3 1.8 ones are the same if thats any help

Cool I have both on order as the mk3 was cheap anyway.

Think the non hydro pump was shorter originally as some info on the net suggests it had shorter

"3: Oil delivery: Oil volume is important! If you want to race, you'll need a high volume oil pump! If your bearings are not receiving a constant flow of oil, they will bottom out and decrease the life of your love. All hydraulic engines from 85-on have higher volume pumps. Why spend aload of money on a pronounced "high-volume-performance" pump when all you need to do to your solid lifter engine is install a pump from a hydraulic engine? "

cool, must have been dropped too long ago for it to be mentioned in the data history then, or just never put in there for whatever reason

1.8 gti oil pump and mk3 2l 8v pump, same case slightly different shaft but I don't think it will be an issue, oil way is slightly bigger in the mk3 as its been cut out fully I guess to cope with increased flow rate.

a turbo diesel oil pump will be high volume as it feeds the engine, the turbo and the oil cooling jets under the pistons
Bert

Thats not a rod knockin, its a diesel stupid! floppy top and 1 tin top

Gonna see what the pump in their looks like, hopefully the standard pump for the hydro head should be enough.

Right side is is th shaft from a mk3 2l 8v pump left side is a mk1 gti pump.
Bit of a difference in the size of the gears so the mk3 should give a bit more pressure.

So just to confirm older solid lifter pump right vs 1.8 hydro head pump on left.
