oil light flashing and a buzzing noise.

oil light flashing and a buzzing noise.

my oil light started flashing today so i put 1ltr of oil in and it kept flashing….

so i put another half a litre in and it still kept flashing and then it started buzzing

now when the oil light flashes it also buzzes…..

first things first im sure my dipstick is not reading corrcetley… ie dont think its the right one and it has red plastic on the end of
the sleve at the top looks like its been broken..(sure the original dipsticks didnt have plastic at the top)?????

i just thought 1.5 litres of oil should of stopped the light flashing let alone this buzzing noise (im sure ive read someone else having this buzzing noise before)…

i know i need to get the correct dip stick set up to ensure what level the oil is currently at…. or…..

is this just a gremlin someone has had before….

oh and the car is a standard campaign

thanks for any input on this issue i have………. spencer

Hi mate.  Be careful you don't over fill it.  Without seeing the dipstick I/others won't know if it's broken or the correct one.  I'd have thought it's the right one and maybe using the search feature on the right might help find previous issues.  I seem to remember something about a broken oil temp sensor… but I'd search on the left bud if no one has more concrete info for you  :dontknow:

Hi mate.

I'm no expert with this but I think you'll find it's an oil pressure warning rather than oil level. However, don't panic just yet !. It seems quite a common problem and if you do a search (in the toolbox section on the left <—) or look in the archive section, you'll find quite a lot about it…I know this from experience.

On mine the buzzer and light were going off all the time, even with the engine off. Ended up changing the whole instrument cluster and not had a peep since. Usual symptoms seem to be that the buzzer/light start flashing over 2000 revs which suggests to look first at the senders.

Anyway, like i say have a search and i'm sure you'll sort it. Sorry cant be of more help, good luck mate.

make sure you get the correct switch as there are two, one for low speed running and one for when revs are above 2k, think that one is side of block.

I read somewhere that someone identified the problem as a dry joint on the back of the clocks, a common problem
on the mk1 in any of it's guises

I'll try and source a link.

MK1 83 Jetta… 2ltr 16v ACE
